Professor Avelino Corma who served as EFCATS president from 2010 to 2014, in an editorial to Angewandte Chemie, points to the necessity of generation of fundamental knowledge at the molecular level in nanomaterials preparation, computational chemistry, spectroscopy and catalytic mechanism so to understand the molecular interactions at the active sites. This knowledge should be used for designing new tailor made materials as catalysts in processes which should improve the living standards of humankind. Full editorial is available at DOI: 10.1002/anie.201601231.
