We are delighted to announce that IACS former President Prof. Gabriele Centi of Messina University is the first recipient of the 2025 APACS & EFCATS Michel Che Award! The Michel Che Award recognizes and encourages outstanding scientists for their fundamental contributions in the fields of catalyst design and characterization, i.e. the understanding molecular processes at solid–liquid or solid–gas interfaces, focusing on catalyst preparation, surface reactivity, and the broader role of physico-chemical methods in these fields. The awardee should also manifest a strong collaboration between Asian and European catalysis communities, thereby reflecting the tireless efforts of Prof. Che in bringing these communities together.

Prof. Gabriele Centi is internationally acclaimed for his groundbreaking work in CO₂ conversion, electrocatalysis, and solar fuels, including the development of advanced catalytic systems and artificial-leaf technologies. His research has advanced both the fundamental understanding of catalytic processes and their application to sustainable energy solutions. He has played a vital leadership role in the catalysis community, serving as President of EFCATS and IACS, and was instrumental in the creation of APACS, reflecting his long-standing commitment to building bridges between Europe and Asia. His collaborations span leading institutions across China, Japan, Malaysia, Australia, and beyond, and he has co-led major initiatives such as the ERC Synergy SCOPE project. In addition to authoring over 650 publications and 15 books, Prof. Centi has edited influential journals, including the Journal of Energy Chemistry, and received numerous international honors, including the Chinese Academy of Sciences PIFI Fellowship. With a unique blend of scientific vision, international leadership, and lasting impact, Prof. Centi exemplifies the spirit of the Michel Che Award and continues to inspire the global catalysis community.

The Award is awarded jointly by the European Federation of Catalysis Societies and the Asia-Pacific Association of Catalysis Societies (APACS). Professor Centi will give plenary lectures will give plenary lectures at the biannual meeting of EFCATS (EuropaCat) and the triannual meeting of APACS (APCAT). The award consists of a plaque and a prize of 2,000€. The plaque will be presented during EuropaCat meeting in Trondheim from August 31st to September 5th 2025.

Congratulations again, Professor Centi, for this award!
