Dr. Federico CALLE-VALLEJO

CALLEVALLEJOEFCATS proudly announces that the recipient of the 2023 EFCATS Young Researcher Award is Dr. Federico CALLE-VALLEJO.

Dr. Federico CALLE-VALLEJO, head of the Computational Electrocatalysis Group at the University of the Basque Country, Spain, is awarded for his exceptional theoretical and computational work in the field of predictive heterogeneous catalysis and electrocatalysis.  )He has developed a unique research style in which he uses first-principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations to model, understand and predict existing as well as new catalytic materials for contemporary chemical conversions of high societal relevance to energy and sustainable chemistry. His approach combining so-called adsorption-energy scaling relations to chemical concepts such as electron count, electrochemical symmetry and generalized coordination numbers has been a pivotal contribution to theoretical catalysis and surface science. Dr. Calle-Vallejo is an exceptional researcher with several awards worldwide, outstanding supervisor and research group leader. He is already one of the world leaders in this field, with a very unique research profile. He is included in the World’s 2% Scientist List published by Stanford University (2019-2022). The EFCATS award will be presented at the 15th European Congress on Catalysis, Europacat 2023 (Prague, August 27-September 1, 2023).
